Heritage Homeowner Resources

One of the goals of Bowstrings Banff is to support heritage buildings owners in Banff and other mountain towns, drawing from our own restoration experiences. We know it is an adventure!

Currently there are ~ 20 municipally-designated heritage properties in Banff, Alberta.  Including these, The Town of Banff has identified more than 100 additional properties that are unique heritage resources. If you are one of the fortunate owners, you might find Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada a useful reference tool.

Please reach out to us if you’d like to complement this and other publications, contribute to a targeted, 2025 reference guide specific to owning a heritage property in a Canadian mountain town.

We see real value in caring for the storied spaces that make each community unique. These places of connection with the past help us understand the present. Walk forward into the future, together.

Banff has long been a place where early peoples came in peace to the foot of Sacred Buffalo Guardian Mountain by the Holy Springs. In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we honour and acknowledge the deep and enduring memory of this valley held by Ktunaxa, Secwepemc, Métis, Dene & Tsuut’ina, Mountain Cree, Siksika & other Blackfoot, and Stoney Nakoda peoples. We acknowledge both the Treaty of 1877, Treaty Seven, and the Treaty of 1895 between the salmon and buffalo peoples. We are grateful to live here and live together with all our relations.
